La Gomera is an island with an area of 369,76 km² and its higher peak is the Garajonay, with 1.487 m of altitude. It is about 12 million years old. The population of the island is of 21.746 inhabitants. The island is located in the Atlantic Ocean in the Canary Isles, set against the African coasts and belongs to the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. About the origin of the name "La Gomera" The most reliable theory is that “La Gomera” is related to the tribes of the same name in the north of Morocco.
